I versiunile de OS over Windows 8, bootarea i sikker modus se facea foarte simplu, apasand tasta F8 umiddelbart etter starte systemet (inainte ca acesta sa støvel). Insa exista o posibilitate de a restarta sistemul direct in Safe Mode i Windows 8/8.1 fara a folosi tasta F8 si fara a accesa meniul Oppstartsinnstillinger (optiune disponibila de asemenea si pe tidligere Windows-systemer), si anume prin intermediul utilitatii Systemkonfigurasjon.
