How to keep your laptop (notebook) safe during travel.
Laptophas become a banality but for many it is still an object of concern. It doesn't matter that he doesn't need it for meetings, vacations or other trips, the laptop must be present. Of course, the configuration of the laptop should be the last straw. For Y!Messenger and Internet Explorer, 256 RAM on a P3 would be enough. Damn. Finally.
During a trip, the laptop can suffer various problems accident which could endanger the stored data and the functionality of the system. In more unpleasant cases it could be pierdut or stealing. Some tips to protect your laptop while traveling, which I hope will be useful to you.
-> First of all, before leaving, think about whether the laptop is a necessity. If you're going on vacation and you don't really need it, enjoy your free time to the fullest. The laptop feels good and at home. He doesn't need to sun, sand, What, snow and eyes theft. Other accidents during transport are likely. Important data can be transported on cheaper and less pretentious units. Stick USB, CD, DVD. Are you going to a location that has a computer connected to the Internet? One more reason to leave your laptop at home. Store the data you need on a FTP or in an address of e-mail.
-> Special laptop backpack. Before putting it in the special backpack, the laptop must be closed and battery removed. During the trip, a switched-on laptop has no way to ventilate itself and this can cause considerable damage to the system. You can buy the special backpack from most computer stores. This backpack is provided with systems of protection against humidity, the heat excessive and cushions the shocks. Before buying a backpack, make sure it has enough compartments for all laptop accessories (battery, external hdd, headphones, microphone, *mobile phone, router, etc.).
-> Safety during transport. Due to the pits in RO, I do not advise you to leave your laptop in the trunk of the car during the trip, even if it is in an anti-shock backpack. Laptop breakdowns will not be covered by the car insurance policy. Do not leave your laptop in the car (especially in plain view) when you stop at the peco stations or when you get off to buy something from a store/supermarket. It would be a real "souvenir" for thieves. In the place intended for luggage from train or autocar, make sure that there is no heavy luggage placed on the backpack in which the laptop is placed to press it. Try to keep the laptop close to you as much as possible. In this way, loss or theft is also avoided.
-> Keep the invoice and purchase/identification documents of the laptop. In case of loss or theft, you must provide proof (brand, model, series, invoice, etc.) that the laptop belongs to you, so that you can start a legal recovery action.
-> Keep a backup copy of the data on the laptop (the backup saint). During the trip, even if safety measures are taken, unforeseen factors may occur that could endanger the data stored on the laptop. Theft, loss, use in inappropriate conditions can lead to a disaster for those who have stored important data. Before the trip, a backup copy of the data is indicated. The backup options are multiple. You can use a HDD external to stay at home or at the office, DVD-uri, CD-s or even a PC desktop.
-> Data encryption. In case your laptop ends up in unauthorized hands, keep the hard drive encrypted. Laptops that come with Windows Vista Enterprise or Ultimate are equipped with the system of BitLocker encryption. If you use another version of Windows, you can find an open source encryption solution. TrueCrypt it is a safe and accessible option for anyone.
-> BIOS password. The operating systems (OS) Vista and XP are provided with a protection system at the user OS level, but this system can be easily bypassed by people who have minimal knowledge of windows hack. For this reason it is indicated to password the laptop at the BIOS level. BIOS, by everyone's understanding, is a basic (vital) system of a laptop/pc. The BIOS offers a password option, so if your laptop is stolen or lost, it cannot be opened without the password you set. Choose a password as strong as possible (type: %$@#@344nN^) and try not to forget it. You could become a victim of your own security system. :-)
These are just a few tips to protect your laptop while traveling on holidays, vacations or business meetings. Keep in mind that despite the design and the status of portable equipment, the laptop is a very demanding system and you have to consider some conditions of transport and use.
