Laptopalarm or how to defend your thieves laptop
A few months ago I wrote a post about how to keep your laptop safe while traveling. The first recommendation was to go leave the laptop (notebook) at home if you really don't need it on vacation, but if you still can't part with it, I would tell you to carry it with you as much as possible, thus preventing it from being stolen. Good guard passes bad danger. :)
I give you the same advice for "outings" with your laptop on a terrace, at the library or at school. But if, for some reason, such as buying a cup of coffee from the jukebox or catching up with an older friend, you leave your laptop unattended, so you don't have the surprise of not finding it when you return, I recommend LaptopAlarm.
LaptopAlarm is a program that does not require installation (self-executing program) care triggers a loud alarm (successfully beats the decibels of a newborn) every time when a direct action takes place on the laptop, defined by you in advance, such as unplugging the power cord, of the mouse or shutting down the laptop. When you choose what to trigger the alarm (by default all alarms are activated) the program provides the possibility to lock the computer so that it is needed typing a password to disable the alarm.
But there are some shortcomings. For example, o the alarm will also go off when you want to log in on your laptop, until you enter the deactivation password and you will be able to log in normally in Windows. Or the fact that anyone will be able to stop the alarm by pressing the power off/shutdown button, although it takes a few seconds until the computer closes in this mode (cold shut down). And the program is a Beta variant, from which it follows that errors may appear. But for many users LaptopAlarm gave results.
Careful!: LaptopAlarm is gratuit/free only in the beta version. The final version will be shareware (adica va fi acompaniata de o licenta de distributie care solicita o anumita plata).
LaptopAlarm functioneaza pe sistemele de operare Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP. In Windows Vista functioneaza doar cu UAC dezactivat.
