Yesterday, a friend tried to install on a laptop Dell cu Windows Vista pre-installed, Windows 7 build 7100. I wasn't present when he did the installation, but we had to talk on the phone and explain what to do to plumber Windows 7. (his level of knowledge in the Windows installation being quite low.) Had Windows Vista installed and was to install Windows 7 from a bootable DVD.
There was a clean installation, avoiding trying to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Windows Vista files were automatically moved by the installer Windows 7 in the folder Windows.old. Everything went normally during the installation, until the last phase, when it appeared FAILURE: BOOTMGR is missing. Being at the last phase of the installation, there was no chance of entry on the old operating system, and on the display had no option.

He repeated the process of insulation, but to no avail. To the completion of the installation, Bootmgr is Missing.
Resolution: (on the phone)
he: – What do I do? Do I install Windows Vista again? He gave again “bootmgr is missing” …
eu: – ppfff…not… Press the shut down button until the laptop closes, then restart the system. Don't press any key. You let him see what he is doing.
he: (after a while) –  mergeeee!!
Good. I did not understand much, and why the error appeared in his situation. On Windows Vista, the error can be corrected with The installation CD, but on Windows 7, it seems like a simple cold restart, it is enough. :)
If you know a real resolution of this problem, please leave comments;)
