We already know as on October 14, 2025, Microsoft will turn off the operating system support Windows 10, and the greatest concern of Windows users is as will not be able to install Windows 11 If the PC does not have support for TPM.
content
Before we see why TPM is a requirement of system / hardware requirements pentru Windows 11, to briefly explain what this feature is and what you use.
What is TPM and what do you use?
TPM is the acronym for Trusted Platform Module. A feature represented by a Physical face on the motherboard of the computer So, if you find that your PC does not have TPM, do not seek to install software to help, because it will not work.
This physical face (hardware) can be included directly in the motherboard (welded on Motherboard) or it can come as an auxiliary component mounted on it. Especially in the case of components that have been built on components.
Trusted Platform Module is a chip that deals with the EXCLUSIVE with generation, storage and Management of encryption keys, digital certificates, tokens and electronic signatures.
Let's understand better, the data that are stored encrypted on our PC, even if they reach another PC they cannot be open / accessed. The TPM is a cryptoprocessor with unique characteristics, and in order to strengthen the data security, this encryption can only communicate with the processor, on the motherboard it has been installed.
The first operating systems that used the TPM module were Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, for BitLocker. This data encryption tool on Windows can use the TPM module, but optional. The operating system administrator can allow Bitlocker to secure data through another Medode, without TPM. Security, however, was not at the same level.
In an older tutorial we have shown how we can use bitlocker if we do not have trusted platform modules. How can we use bitlocker without Trusted Platform Modules (TPM).
TPM 1.2 vs. TPM 2.0 – Trusted Platform Module
Although they have some common items, the two chips TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0 are not compatible with each other. TPM 2.0 is an upgrade of TPM 1.2, but it comes with many improvements on the side of Architecture and encryption allogorithms, offered several safe security options.
If TPM 1.2 uses hash encryption algorithm (Hashing Algorithm) SHA-1, which is very vulnerable, TPM 2.0 comes with an algorithm SHA-256 which operates on blocks of 512-bits. Also TPM 1.2 does not provide support for Device Encryption, Windows Defender System Guard, Autopilot and SecureBIO.
The first variant of the module TPM 1.2 It was initially launched in 2005, but on PCs it started to appear only on the 2009 models. The final version of Cryptoprocessor TPM 1.2 being completed in 2011. The chip was initially used for banking systems, ATMs and other systems that required high security security measures.
TPM 2.0 was initially launched in 2014, but in the final form it reached the middle of 2019. So we talk about a relatively new hardware technology, and those who have older computers may have unpleasant surprises when they will install Windows 11.
Why is TPM "must have" on Windows 11
Even though we often say that the Windows operating system has many security breaches and is a favorable environment for computer attacks of all kinds, Microsoft has always tried to make strong security solutions available to users. This is also happening with TPM 2.0. A type of data encryption that can be used on Windows 11 to increase the safety of sensitive information.
Microsoft initially communicated that Crypto TPM 1.2 or TPM 2.0 processor is required to install Windows 11. In the Requirements hardware documentation that had appeared at one point, many users were a little scared, because only TPM 2.0 is specified. Microsoft has returned to the madness with TPM 2.0, and at the time I write the article are even a few OEM systems that Windows 11 can be installed without TMP.
It is certain, however, that Windows 11 can be installed without TPM if some tricks are used. About a trick I wrote in the article Fix “This PC can’t run Windows 11” and Install.
There is another problem. Entering TPM 2.0 Mandatory in Requirements hardware, that means that Windows 11 will no longer be able to install on any Mac with Intel. Apple gives no signs that he would like to come up with an update of firmware which will allow TPM on new models of imac with processing that incorporated the module.
Most likely for Mac users will come with arbitrary drivers through Boot Camp Assistant.
