For the most part, the search function in Windows has remained unchanged in the last two decades. Microsoft has not emphasized this functionality, although it is very imported, especially on the computers on which many files are stored. However, things begin to change, although not all users will have access to this improved functionality.
For now, improved search functions are only available for locally saved files in indexed locations. You can customize these locations from settings, including the option of indexing the entire PC. Future updates will extend the support to cloud storage services, such as OneDrive. In addition, the search for settings using natural language is currently limited to the Settings application, but will also become available in the search box in the taskbar.
The search feature in Windows 11 will be gradually implemented for users in the Windows Insiders program that use Snapdragon Childo+PCs. The initial support includes Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish languages. The function is compatible with the common formats of documents, such as .pdf, .docx and .PPTX, as well as with the .jpg, .png and .gif image formats.

This feature will first be available on PCs with Snapdragon processors, to be launched later on X86 architecture systems. Currently, it is only accessible to users registered in the Insider program, so it could take some time until it appears for stable versions. It is a pity that the function is limited to the co-pilot PCs+, but, given that it is based on a local run, it is understandable. At the same time, this shows that we will benefit from more and more functions of this type, as Microsoft finds new ways to capitalize on the NPU units integrated into modern PCs.
Although Microsoft makes this important by introducing semantic search function on Windows 11 PCs, it is important to note that Apple already offers similar features on its devices. Mac, iOS and iPados users have been in good years of search through Spotlight, which allows finding files, images and information using natural language. In addition, with the help of the integration of AI and Live Text function, Apple devices can recognize text in pictures and quickly look for relevant information, providing a similar but available experience on a wider range of devices. This difference emphasizes the faster pace with which the Apple ecosystem adopts such functionalities for all its users.
