For easy to interpret reasons (such as feedback-ul negative received after the release of the much controversial version Firefox 4.0), Mozilla never tried to implement the current one browser interface, Strata, and in its versions for mobile platforms. Ever since the release of the first version Firefox for Android, various were experimented INTERFACE for versions for tablets or smartphone-uri, experiments that resulted in an almost non-existent similarity between the appearance of the desktop versions and the appearance of the mobile versions. Australis it is an attempt by Mozilla to provide users with the same experience and the same interface for all versions of Firefox, be they for Windows, Mac or Linux, or mobile platforms such as Android.

The first thing that catches your eye when it comes to Australis are rounded corners but tabs si chiar si cele din partea de jos a browserului. Noua interfata Firefox va fi destul de diferita de actuala, in schimb va a duce putin cu Opera si ceva mai mult cu Chrome, dar totodata va avea si elemente de design diferite (menite probabil sa inchida gura celor ce vor vedea in aceasta asemanare un nou motiv pentru critici), cum ar fi aspectul plat, abia sesizabil, al tab-urilor inactive.

Desi mai avem de asteptat cateva luni pana cand noua interfata isi va intra in drepturi (cel mai probabil aceasta se va intampla odata cu lansarea versiunii Firefox Metro, la sfarsitul lui 2012), anumite versiuni Mozilla Firefox au deja implementate feature-uri inspirate din Australis (cum ar fi butoanele simplificate si dialogul de Download in Firefox Nightly 15 Or a few visual elements din Firefox pentru Android).
