How we change the Power button function in Windows Vista (Sleep or Shut Down)

Many users of the operating system Windows Vista they noticed that when they want to close the computer / laptop, the button in the "Start Bar" that should do this (shut down), does nothing but activate the “Sleep”.

There are not a few who out of ignorance say that "that's how it should be" and that "the laptop is closed". False. In "sleep" mode, all services run at minimum capacity (low-power). Windows Vista has the "Shut Down" option somewhere in the extension of the maintenance menu.

However, if we want to assign this button the function of shut down, we can do it. Here's how:

1. Write powercfg.cpl in the dialog box "Start Search"And press the ENTER key.

2. A window will open with "Power Options”, in which you must select the option “Change Plan Settings”.

3. From the window that opened "Edit Plan Settings”, click pe “Change advanced power settings". (click on the image below)

4. Once you reach the "Power Options" administration panel, you have the possibility to change the action of the power button.

Sub “Power buttons and lid” –> "Start menu power button" you find the option that will change the "Sleep" action to the "Shut Down" action of the "Power" button.

5. Apply & OK.

The tutorial above is made on laptop Toshiba / OS Windows Vista Home Premium. If you use a desktop system  it is possible that some options do not look exactly like those in the tutorial images. Laptops have some extra options. Power Mangement for "direct power supply" (Plugged in), "battery" (On battery) and "lid" (the laptop flap).
