Most users of smartphone-uri I use to keep backups of contacts either in Email addresses (Google), either in computer (created with applications PC Companion gen iTunes or Choose), be stored on various Cloud services (SkyDrive, Dropbox or iCloud). Also, they can be synchronize and with social networks (Facebook or Twitter) or IM clients use (Yahoo or WhatsApp). In this way, transfer contacts on a new phone it is much simpler and only takes a few seconds.
As in the case Android phones, users iPhone I can face the problem of one messy contact lists, with many duplicate, because of combining/synchronizing contacts from multiple locations. Sorting them could take forever, especially if we are talking about lists of at least over 100 contacts. Fortunately, there is solutions for this problem, and one of them is the application OneContact.
