Immediately after the launch Windows 8.1 Update, Microsoft announced that the systems Windows 8.1 who will not have the respective update installed (this is the equivalent of a Service Pack for earlier Windows systems) they will not receive anymore system updates and security through Windows Update starting with May of this year. More precisely, to continue receiving security updates, users Windows 8.1 (but not the users Windows 8) are required to install Windows 8.1 Update, otherwise they will have vulnerable systems to possible malware attacks.

This decision a Microsoft it wouldn't necessarily have been a problem, but some of the Windows 8.1 users would were unable to install Windows 8.1 Update because of some fall which, despite Microsoft's attempts (the relaunch of Windows 8.1 Update and the updating of the Windows Update service) were not resolved. Fortunately for those who have not yet installed (or could not install) Windows 8.1 Update, Microsoft announced yesterday that they will continue to release security updates for Windows 8.1 inca 30 days, until the date of June 10, 2014, and also created a support page which provides information about posts and error codes which may appear when trying to install the update and possible solutions for these:
- Code 0x80073712
- Code 0x800F0923
- Error: We couldn’t complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don’t turn off your computer.
- Error: Failure configuring Windows Updates. Reverting changes.

The reason why Microsoft has extended by 30 days the period in which Windows 8.1 Update can be installed before the security updates for Windows 8.1 were blocked, the fact is that many users have not yet updated their systems and they would have remained vulnerable, something that was neither in their interest, nor in the company's interest. uSERS enterprise of the Windows 8.1 system will have a period 3 times longer (120 days) to install Windows 8.1 Update (up to 12 august 2014) before their systems stop receiving security updates.
