Microsoft presented two days ago, during an event held in New York, the new design Surface of the company. An orientation towards dual-screen PCs, including the new one Surface Neo, which will be followed by a series of devices dual-screen products of top companies and brands, such as ASUS, HP, Dell and Lenovo.
This new hardware will need a specially optimized operating system to support two (dual-screen) interactive screens. This will be it Windows 10X. An operating system based entirely on Windows 10, but with features dedicated to Surface Neo and similar devices with two screens.
Microsoft gives assurances that on Windows 10X all Windows 10 compatible applications will be available, but it should be mentioned that they will run in a dedicated container for long battery life. This makes us think that the new Windows 10X will be based on Windows Core OS. A plus for user UX interaction with new generation devices.
Windows 10X si Surface Neo
Microsoft launched the first Surface concept about 7 years ago. The idea was to combine the utility of a laptop and a tablet in a single device.
The new Surface Neo it's a dual-screen, hinged device – a kind of laptop where the part with the keyboard has been replaced with another screen. With the new one Windows 10X, on both screens applications can be run in parallel / simultaneously. You can, for example, watch a football match on one screen, and keep a game or an Internet browser open on the other screen. You can also easily drag an application from one screen to another or open an email message on one screen and the “compose message” on the other screen. These features of Surface Neo are very useful for business.
Applying a magnetic bluetooth keyboard over a surface turns the Surface Neo into a real laptop. The keyboard will cover one part of the screen, and the other part will display the so-called “Wonder Bar“. A kind of Touch Bar from the MacBook Pro, in which shortcuts to the applications open on the screen and other tools will be displayed.
Windows 10X will not remain the only operating system based on the classic Windows 10. Microsoft intends to develop a single operating system in the future, using OneCore technology. This operating system would be compatible on all Microsoft devices, from Windows PC, laptops, Surface to Xbox and others.
Surface Neo will most likely be launched during the Winter Holidays next year. 2020. Until then, it is very possible that new technologies will allow Microsoft to bring both hardware improvements and new features to Windows 10X.
