One of the less known news included by Apple in the system OS X Yosemite is the possibility of setting Automatic installation of system updates, so that users no longer have to check and manually install those updates (until OS X Yosemite, automatic updates were only available for installed applications and the system).

- open System Preferences and click on App Store (Starting with Yosemite including system updates are available by App Store, and not by Software Update, as in the previous versions of OS X)
- If not already activated, tick the options Automatically check for updates and Download newly available updates in the background
- Then tick the option and Install OS X updates (it becomes available only after activating the two options mentioned above); Optionally, tick the option and Install system data files and security updates
After you do these SETTINGS, anything new system updates (for example OS X Yosemite 10.10.2) will be automatically installed when they become available.
Note: Automatic installation of system updates is recommended only if the system is scheduled to make regular backups through Time Machine (to be able to repair any errors caused by certain updates).
