You will probably agree with me as the security of a PC does not refer only to antivirusion And everything that is related to them, but also to whether or not we want to allow access to other people to important and/or private information stored on its HDD (especially if we refer to the personal PC). That is why it is important to know how we can protect this information or, more precisely, how we can prevent their "migration".
In most cases, copying information/files without the consent of their owner (theft) is done with the help of USB devices (Sticks, external HDDs, etc.), first of all because they can be connected quickly and directly to the system and as quickly the data transfer can be done. To prevent the use of these devices for the purpose mentioned, We recommend the restriction of connecting to them to your system.
Restricting the use of USB devices in Windows XP
1.
- taste %windir%inf in Run And give Enter To open the folder inf
- Identify the files usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf and change their permissions for users following the steps:
– Right click on each file and select Properties; in tab-ul Security Select the user or the group of users to whom you want to restrict the use of USB desposites in the system. In Permissions for Users check Deny And then give OK.
2.
- open Registry Editor (Run->regedit) and follow the way HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesUsbStor
- In the right panel, change the value of the entrance (DWORD) Start in 4. After this change, the system will no longer detect the installed USB devices (to lift the restriction, change the entry value Start in 3.)
If you want to Restrict only writing (copying) files on USB storage devices, then open Registry Editor And follow the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrent Control SetControlStorageDevicePolicies. In the right panel create the entrance Write Protect (Dword) and give them the value 1 (1=enable).
